Holding Lauren!

I got to finally hold our sweet girl yesterday! It was the best experience. I could have held her all day and night. It was so nice to feel her squirm around and get comfortable. She tolerated being held very well and had her oxygen weened down numerous times. She was not a very happy camper when they took her away from me and put her back on her warmer. It was the loudest we have heard her cry. Sad to hear her cry, but cute none the less. Kangaroo care has some great benefits such as: temperature regulation by breast tissue heating up, faster weight gain, decreased number of hospital infections, earlier discharge, and quiet restful sleep that is so important for preemies. Lauren is doing well on CPAP right now and we hope that keeps up. After the 6 doses of the Indocin, her PDA is still open. Surgery may still be needed to close it, but the doctors feel she is doing well and does not need it right now. We all know how quickly that may change though! It may even decide to close on it's own. She is continuing to do very well with her feedings and has been increased to 4mls every 2 hours.

  1. Hi Jami,
I just opened Anna's blog and read of Lauren's birth and the tears welled up. Anna had told me you had Lauren early. It is so wonderful that you are able to be there with her and she can be close to you since that is exactly what she needs to grow and gain weight, also to feel your touch and your love.
I will remember to pray for you, Lauren and your husband.
    Love, Julie (Anna's mom)

  2. That is so wonderful you got to hold her! There is truly nothing like it! I will continue to pray that her PDA closes on its own. My daughter had surgery to close hers at 5 days old. It made such a difference once it was closed though. Super news that she is doing great with her feeds too! We were just at the hospital yesterday- it was so wonderful to see some of the doctors and nurses! Truly an unforgettable experience. Continuing to send my prayers!

  5. What beautiful pictures. Glad you are getting to hold her and that she is responding so nicely. I remember the first time holding Kara. A very precious time.
