Bittersweet Day

So, today has been a bit of roller coaster of emotions for us. I was finally released from the hospital after 1 week of being there and my blood pressures being too unstable to send me home. Now that I am home, my blood pressures are the best they have been in a week. No where near normal for a non pregnant woman, but normal for a post severe pre-eclampsia patient. It is so nice to be able to walk out on the deck at my leisure and enjoy the fresh clean air. I think being home and comfortable and around my dogs makes a huge difference in how stressed out I've been feeling.

As happy as I am to be home, my heart aches for little Lauren. It's an odd feeling leaving the hospital with no baby after having a c-section. We both know that Lauren is getting the absolute best care and that is what she needs right now. We just miss her. The NICU at St. Vincent's is very supportive and so great at answering all of our questions. We will soon figure out our routine for visiting Lauren.

I called and got a quick update this evening...she had lost weight and was down to about 1lb 1oz and has gained the last couple of days. She was 1lb 2.2oz this evening. At birth she was 1lb 3oz. As with term babies, it is normal for premies to also lose weight after birth. She is still on the ventilator and doing well on it. When they weigh her, they pop her off the ventilator and the nurse said she did well and breathed on her own through the ET tube until she was hooked back up after they were done weighing her. Her breast milk feedings were increased to 2mls every 2 hours and she has been tolerating them well so far. Her digestive system is doing well...3 poopy diapers today! I'm sure you all wanted to know that, but it's good progress. :) We continue to just take it hour by hour and day by day.

  1. Welcome home Jami. I look forward to seeing you when you are ready for a visitor! I can only imagine how it must have felt for you to leave Lauren at the hospital, but am so glad you are comfortable and confident in the care she is getting at the hospital. I'm sure being home will help you to relax and bring your blood pressure down to where it needs to be. I love these pictures of your sweet baby. Especially the second one where she is shielding from the camera, obviously she's not quite used to all the photos yet? :)

  2. At bedtime last night, Nora said, "Someone will bring the itty bitty baby to see me at my house?" I told her that she is in the hospital right now, but after that, Jami and Adam would bring Lauren Marie to our house. So, start talking to Lauren about her first outing! :) We love you and think about you LOTS!!
