Quick Update

Just one more quick update for today. Jami got a couple hours of sleep during the afternoon and then got out of bed for the first time. She is doing great and got cleared to eat and drink pretty much whatever she wants now.

After Jami got out of bed we went on a field trip down to the NICU to see Lauren. This was only the second time Jami has been able to see her (the first was only a few hours after she was born). We were limited to 30 minutes as Jami's nurse didn't want her to over exert herself this early in her healing process. We had a great little family visit. Lauren is making little whining / crying noises pretty often and moves around quite a bit when she's awake. At this point they don't want her to be overstimulated, so all we can really do is put a hand / finger on her (not moving it around).

Lauren also got a neon blue light today which acts as some sort of phototherapy. I'm told by the NICU nurses that this prevents jaundice as babies Lauren's age can't cope with it on their own. She should have the light for a couple days, then maybe off and on for a period after that. Lauren's blood sugar was also a little high today. We were told that this is not really abnormal given how small she is. They are giving her some insulin to manage her blood sugar for now. They also said it's not in any way an indicator of diabetes, just one of those little things that's almost to be expected for a baby her age and size. I took a couple of pictures during our visit which I'll post with this entry.

Jami will try to make an entry when she's feeling up to it. For now, everything is going well...
