Lauren is still being such a tough little girl. She had a rough night on Saturday and ended up being placed back on the ventilator after a deep drop in her oxygen saturation around 1am. She had a busy day earlier that same day. They had tried to place a PICC line earlier and she did not tolerate it too well. They gave her some Morphine and her heart rate & respirations dropped too much requiring Narcan for reversal of the Morphine. She has been working so hard and I think things just caught up to her. We are trying to look at her being back on ventilator as a good thing because she is able to catch up on some much needed rest and can take a bit of a break from working so hard at her young age. She has been doing very well on the ventilator and they are going to try and ween her off and place her back on CPAP tomorrow (Tuesday.) They tried the PICC line again and got it in. Having one will be nice since they last for quite a while. Her blood sugars are still fluctuating and her sodium is slightly high and they are adjusting meds for those. She is increasing the amount of milk she is getting. Currently 1.8ml every 2 hours. Her digestive system is working...now dad just needs to get down there to change his first poopy diaper. :) The doctors and nurses reminded us yesterday that although it is great for us to come visit Lauren she does really need to just sleep in order to develop. She doesn't need too much stimulation and really gets quite enough from all the cares from the nurses. It is such a joy to just watch her sleep when we visit. Last night when we were there Adam made a comment about how tiny she is and she immediately flailed her arms in protest! It was quite funny to watch...I don't think she liked her dad calling her tiny. :) We also were able to have her hold each of our fingers. She really seems to like holding onto something. The top picture is dad's hand and the bottom is mine. She is able to hang on very tightly for such a little lady. We also got a good look at her face and she is such a blonde right now. Daddy's in trouble! We will let you know how the weening off the ventilator goes and hopefully our next post will be about how well she is doing back on CPAP. Again, thank you all for your love & support.
Hi Friend- What precious pictures of your finger with her hand! I thought that was blond looking hair that she has! What cherished moments! I think she gets her strong grips from her mom and dad!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet little face Lauren has! Thank you for sharing this with all of us. We love to read your updates. Loving that she can hold your hands so tightly, she knows how much she is loved by you two!
ReplyDeleteJami,
ReplyDeleteShe is a beautiful blessing. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. It is amazing to see her holding your hands, so precious.
Hi Jami! Ann shared your blogsite with me, I hope you don't mind. Your daughter is beautiful and it seems like she is doing really well so far! My daughter Haley was born at 25 weeks 4 days as well- 7 years ago today :) The nicu is a rollercoaster and usually with 2 steps forward and 1 step back most of the time, as I am sure you are finding out. :( We were at St Vincents as well, Lauren is in good hands there! We loved so many of the nurses and the doctors we had were great! If you have any questions or anything, I would be happy to help or just listen. The size of a micro preemie is something else, we took pictures of Haley next to a 20oz pepsi bottle every week to show size- and a beanie baby too. :) It really puts it into perspective. The nurses slipped my husbands wedding band up her arm too.
ReplyDeleteSending my prayers for Lauren and you!
