Lauren Marie Bello

Lauren came into our lives on 05/20/09 at 1024. She did so much earlier than expected at just 25 weeks and 4 days, weighing only 1 pound and 3 ounces. We hope for this blog to serve as an avenue for us to give updates to family and friends, without having to make tons of different phone calls (not that we don't love talking to all of you!).

Right now Lauren is doing well and is in the NICU at St. Vincent's Hospital in Portland. She will most likely be in the NICU until she is 36-38 weeks, depending on how she progresses. At some point we may be able to have her transported to Salem Hospital NICU, but that all depends on her progress. Jami and I are very hopeful that she will respond well to her care, and grow to be a healthy little baby girl. For now she is on a CPAP respirator to assist her in breathing. She was initially intubated and placed on a ventilator, but graduated to the CPAP only 7 hours or so after being born. She seems to be a little fighter so far and is doing as well as can be expected. That being said, we know that there are many challenges for a baby as young as Lauren, and hope for the best.

For the most part this blog will be kept and updated by Jami. I am making this initial post just to get the ball rolling and give people an update. Jami is sleeping right now and I am making this post from her bedside. If all goes well for her and her blood pressure stays down, she may be able to come home on Sunday. She just got taken off of her IV meds and is also making good progress. While it will be hard for us to leave the hospital without Lauren, we are comfortable that she is receiving the best care possible.

We also want to thank everyone for all the love and support that we've been getting. We appreciate it! That is all for now... we'll try to update as soon as we can.
